| Mon, 20 Aug 2007 12:04:00 Airports are the entry points, from which a visitor form an idea about the country and first impression is always the last one, hence up grading and equipping airports with the latest and modern facilities, is executed carefully. Moreover, the sensitivity of air transport sector and its importance in improving and strengthening the economic situation of any nation cannot be ignored; therefore, governments worldwide work hard and invest heavily in aviation sector, to ensure smooth movement of goods and passengers.
The Sudanese economic witnessed a marvelous performance in the last decade, coupled with the signing of peace treaty that put an end to the brutal war in the south. These two factors, in addition to the flow of foreign investments from allover the globe encourages the government to take the boldest decision of building a new international airport as a replacement for the existing one which is one of the busiest airports in Africa and it is rapidly growing cargo hub.
Khartoum New International airport (KINA) is one of the most vital projects and it will play a crucial rule in increasing the pace of development in all departments, especially business and tourism sectors.
Location: The project is located 40 km south of Omdurman and 5 km at the western side of the White Nile. The airport fenced area estimated to 1.500.000 ha .The initial design is based on an annually transport of 6.500.000 passengers beside cargo that can be extended to higher figures during the future.
Technical Specifications: The Khartoum New international Airport (KINA) will be equipped with all facilities and utilities for smooth operation.
Runways: The airport has two runways each one 4.000m length and 60m width with 2000m between them and aprons for aircrafts parking and servicing. A passenger terminal: Three levels building with an area of 70.000m2 besides 10 contact gates with passengers boarding bridges.
Future Plans: • Separate Hajj (pilgrim) terminals • Multi purposed internationals terminal • A presidential and general aviation terminal • An air traffic control (ATC) Tower • Fire –fighting and rescores facilities • To service courts for maintenance and operation • A catering building • Different parking lots and covered care parks
Airport Administration Building This sector is built on 22.641 m2 with capacity to accommodate 1200 staff, in addition to five star hotel with 300 double rooms in an area of 26.435 m2
Airport Visitor Center This sector is built on 3.126 m2 with capacity to accommodate 500 guests, in addition to Shopping mall, housing areas for resident airport staff, their families and residential city. Moreover, a passengers complex, hotel business center,
Services at the Airport: • Aircraft maintenance hangar and apron • A fuel farm • All service utilizes such as independent power generation, water supply and sewerage treatment.
The project will be completed by the end of 2009 and will be officially inaugurated early 2010.
