The National Capital Khartoum is the capital of Sudan and the administrative, financial and political core of its federal system. Together with the two other cities, Khartoum North (Bahri) and Omdurman, it forms what is called as the Tripartite Capital.

 

For food lovers, there are a number of international and local restaurants in Khartoum, with more cropping up monthly.  Chinese, Indian, Italian, Turkish and Ethiopian food is the most common. 

 

The following are just a few of the restaurants/take away foods most frequently used:

 

Khartoum:

 

Hilton Hotel: Located on Nile Avenue.  Coffee Shop & Ivory room for elegant dinners, coupled with various themed buffets, they create an adventurous ambience that many diners seek.

 

Meridian Hotel Restaurant: Located on Sayed Abdul Rahman Avenue and Qasr (Palace) Avenue.  Restaurant and pizzeria.

 

Hot Hot Pizza (Takeway): Located in Khartoum II.  Pizza and Shawourmah take away.

 

Delicious Restaurant & Ice Cream Parlor: This restaurant and ice cream parlor is situated on the corner of Street 1, opposite the All Saints Cathedral. Serves great meals and takeaway foods such as  shawourmahs, beefburgers etc. at very reasonable prices. Open Saturday thru Thursday from 09:30 a.m. till late in the evenings. On Fridays open in the evening only from 6:30 p.m. till late.  Delicous also has an Ice Cream Parlor in Riyadh near the McNimer pharmacy.  

 

Little India Restaurant: Authentic Indian food Located on Street 41, Plot No. 47,  Khartoum II. Indian curries, Tikkas, Kababs, Biryani, Samosa, Nans, Rotis, Indian sweets and much more...  For bookings etc., call 0912306543. Open daily from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.  On Fridays open from 4:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. Takeaway available.

 

Grand Villa Hotel & Restaurant: Located on Nile Avenue. The atmosphere is relaxed, yet professional. The accommodation is luxurious, yet extremely affordable. For business or leisure, there’s no better choice of venue.

 

Amwaj Take Away: Located on the corner of Street 15, Africa Road, if you like chicken this is the place to go, Fried, grilled and barbecued chicken, fish and beefburgers available. Open daily from 09:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.

 

Mo'men: a fast food restaurant from Egypt, which had opened up sometime late last year. Took an ultimate cheese chicken burger.

 

Italy Pizza: located on the first Riyadh Road, going toward McNimer Pharmacy, this restaurant serves delicious Pizzas at reasonable prices. Open Saturday thru Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until 11: 00 p.m. On Friday, open in the evening only from 6:30 p.m. 

 

German Club: Street 1 Amarat. The restaurant of this club is available to non-members. You pay an entrance fee of SD500 per person. Open daily for breakfast, lunch & Dinner.

 

Cafekange (CK): Invites you to enjoy Sudanese lunch and supper (Open Buffet) everyday except Fridays.  Lunch is served from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. while supper is served from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m. Indoor air conditioned restaurant, is situated at the intersection of Malik Abdul Aziz with Street 11, Middle Road, New Extension -- east of Coptic Club. Due to limited space, reservations can be made by telephone: 83-465694, 83-480104 or cell phone 0912360427.  Fax: (83) 480106.

 

Al Fulk Nile Tourism Restaurant: Located alongside the River Nile directly across from the Hilton Hotel.  Open 7 days per week from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.  Waiter serviced meals and drinks.  In addition, Nile cruises can be booked through this restaurant. For reservations, call 83-771916.

 

Tutti Frutti : Italian home-made gelato ice cream adjacent to Riyadh Family Park.

 

Ozone: coffee, patisserie, bakery and ice cream at the former Coca Cola traffic island with a beautiful setting with garden.  Great for children who can play in the garden or go rollerblading on the concrete circle around the garden.

 

Solitaire: salads, sandwiches and coffee with a free wireless network to access the internet.  Located on Street 15, Amarat.

 

Universal Café: Italian coffee and light meals, Street 27 Amarat.

 

Khartoum North (Bahri):

 

Palace Hotel: Located in Khartoum North, Restaurant & take away.

 

Al-Zwada Resturant & Park: Baladia Street, a pleasant place for eating and relaxing.

 

Al-Bik: Al-Mauna Street, mix menu.

 

Al-Bait Al-Sore: Shambat Street, exclusive Syrian menu.

 

Omdurman:

 

Riviera Restaurant and Park: Located past the Morada fish market alongside the River Nile in Omdurman.  This restaurant is open 7 days a week from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 midnight.  Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served. It is an ideal venue for celebrating birthdays, anniversaries and other special occasions.  For reservations, call 87-562745.

 

Golden Gate Restaurant: This very pleasant restaurant in Omdurman is located alongside the river Nile, near the Riviera Restaurant. The outside dining area is very pleasant during the cooler months.

 

Indian Home Restaurant: Located in Omdurman. Call 87-560108 for reservations. Take away also available.

 

Shawadi Ice Cream Shop: Located in Omdurman-Wadnobawee.  Al-Souq Aljadid (the new market), take away only. Open daily from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 p.m. On Fridays opening the evening only from 4:00 p.m.
