Mputu Mabi was the chief culprit as Mazembe of the Democratic Republic of Congo squandered a host of chances when held 0-0 by Al-Hilal of Sudan Saturday in the CAF Champions League. The leading scorer in both the 2007 CAF Champions League and African Confederation Cup competitions wasted the best chance of the match from close range soon after half-time.

A capacity 30,000 crowd at the Municipal Stadium in the southern city saw 1967 and 1968 African champions Mazembe dominate possession and territory only to be let down by a predictable attacking pattern and wild finishing.

Mabi was given a stoppage-time chance to salvage his reputation as one of the deadliest strikers in Africa, but blazed a free kick over from just outside the penalty area.

The result kept 2007 semi-finalists Al-Hilal top of Group B with four points from two matches followed by Cotonsport Garoua of Cameroon with three from one ahead of a Sunday showdown against twice champions Enyimba in Nigeria.

Mazembe have one point and Enyimba none in a pool from which the winners and runners-up qualify for the semi-finals in pursuit of a one-million-dollar first prize.
