The magnificent display, of the giant Sudanese football clubs Al-Hilal and Al-Merrikh in the most prominent African competitions, The African Champion League and the Confederation Cup respectively for the second consecutive season, prove that the Sudanese football is retaining its lost glory.
Al-Hilal the Blue Wave qualified for the group stage of The African Champion League after defeating the South African Sundowns at home 42 and loosing 01 away from home.
Teams qualified for the same stage along with Al-Hilal are Asec Mimosas (Côte d'Ivoire), Zamalek & El Ahly (Egypt), Dynamos (Zimbabwe), Cotton Sport (Cameron), TP Mazembe (RD Congo), Enyimba (Nigeria)
On the other hand Al-Marrikh trash the Zembawaian team Highlands up and down. The first match played away from home and won by the Red Devil 20, and the return leg played at Khartoum stadium and again won by Al-Marikh 31.
Khartoum stadium filled was filled beyond capacity and the spectators enjoyed the play throughout the ninety minutes. The first goal of the match scored by the visitors in the second minutes of the match, while Al-Marikh goals were scored by Tambal two and Al-Ajab one.
With this result the Red Devils qualified for the nest round of the competition.
