Minister of Finance issues decision decreasing flooring fees on un-cleared goods at Port Sudan Harbour

Minister of Finance and National Economy, Dr. Awad Ahmed Al-Jaz, has issued a decision decreasing the flooring fees on the accumulated and un-cleared goods at Port-Sudan harbour as an incentive to boost production. The decision reduces the demurrage incurred on the floored and un-cleared by 50% within 15 days during July 25 until 8 August 2009. Flooring fees on the un-cleared and floored commodities were decreased by 30% for 15 days only during August 9 - 23, 2009. The Minister announced that as from 23 August 2009 flooring fees on the un-cleared commodities would be calculated by the normal rates applicable before 25 July 2009 and will be subject to the regulations being used at Port Sudan Harbour. Meanwhile, Chairman of the Sudanese Businessmen and Employers Federation S'oud Mamoun Al-Brair lauded the decision of the Ministry of Finance and National Economy to decease the flooring fees at Port Sudan Harbnour during 25 July to 23 August 2009. Al-Birair explained that decreasing the flooring fees at Port Sudan Harbour comes as part of the Ministry of Finance's understanding to the issues and problems facing the private sector, describing it as a positive step that would motivate the business sectors and the private sector.
