The inauguration of the ethanol factory in Kenana is regarded as a significant development in sugar industry and a promotional addition to the development process which Sudan witnesses in the field of the developed industries which is currently the concern of many of the developing countries specially in the field of producing substitutes for energy, besides the contributions of the Sudanese engineering experts in this project work, which is considered as a development in the sphere of sugar industry and the development process of Kenana factory regarding it as a pioneer in the field of agricultural industry. It is to mention that Ethanol fuel is ethanol (ethyl alcohol),. It can be used as a fuel, mainly as a biofuel alternative to gasoline, and is widely used by flex-fuel light vehicles and as an oxygenate to gasoline. Because it is easy to manufacture and process and can be made from very common crops such as sugar cane and corn, in several countries ethanol fuel is increasingly being blended as gasohol or used as an oxygenate in gasoline. Bioethanol, unlike petroleum, is a renewable resource that can be produced from agricultural feedstocks. Anhydrous ethanol (ethanol with less than 1% water) can be blended with gasoline in varying quantities up to pure and most modern gasoline engines will operate well with mixtures of 10% ethanol. Most cars on the road today can run on blends of up to 10% ethanol.

The President of the Republic Field Marshal Omar Hassan Albashir inaugurated the Ethanol Factory in Kenana on Wednesday 10th of June, which allow the country to enter a new era for producing the green fuel at a production capacity of 65 million litre which will be increased to reach 200 million litre during the coming two years as the first factory of its kind in Africa.
