Mihas which orginzed by MATRADE will start today 7/05/2008 and will last till 11/5/2008 countries throughout the world are participating, including Sudan. The delegation of Sudan is headed by Nafisa Mohammad Ahmed, head of exhibition Ministry of Foreign Trade. The fiar slogan for this year is, bridging the Global Halal Market.

About the Fair:

This trade fair was pioneered in 2004 and congregates the largest annual gathering of halal industry players and entrepreneurs in the effort to ease the sourcing and selling of global quality halal consumables, products and services. It embraces the halal concept in all its dimensions from pharmaceuticals and herbal products, cosmetics and health care to Islamic investment, banking and takaful.

As an international trade fair focused on halal, MIHAS attracts a following of loyal visitors and exhibitors. MIHAS 2007 saw the active participation of 514 exhibitors from 26 countries and attracted a total of 36,792 visitors from 64 countries. Over 55% of these visitors are trade buyers and the who’s who in the food and beverage industry from the ASEAN countries.

Every year, MIHAS hosts over 400 buyers and matches them with participants of MIHAS from Malaysia. Last year, this programme resulted in immediate sales of over RM200 million with over RM400 million under negotiation.

Today, MIHAS is the premier event that is not limited to the ASEAN region alone but is also supported internationally by the enthusiastic participation of International Pavilions from countries across the globe. This has equipped MIHAS with the extra edge to break through barriers to enter young developing markets committed to serve the needs of the halal consumer and to reach a quality-conscious generation seeking quality halal food products.

MIHAS serves as the best entry point for the world market to penetrate the global Muslim market or embark into the ASEAN market. MIHAS is hosted by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI), and organised by the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE).

What is Halal?

In the Quran, the holy book and guide for all Muslims, there exists verses that call for Muslims to seek provisions that are ‘halalan tayibbun’. The English equivalent for this phrase would mean lawful and wholesome. Therefore, halal is actually about everything from the food we consume to the businesses we conduct to the transactions we perform in our daily lives. It is the responsibility of a Muslim to ensure that what he practices and consumes is clean, hygienic and not detrimental to either his health or his well-being. Halal is an all encompassing concept which encourages a Muslim to seek and use products, ventures and services that promote cleanliness in all aspects of a person’s -that a product or service is safe for consumption, produced in a clean environment. Halal is the next benchmark for quality.
