Referendum Act for South Sudan Approved at General Features Phase

The National Legislative Authority, chaired by the Speaker of the National Assembly, Ahmed Ibrahim Al-Tahir, has approved in its evening sitting Sunday the Referendum Act for South Sudan for the year 2009 in the phase of general features, while the Referendum Act of Abyei was postponed till the sitting of Monday. Al-Tahir pointed out that the Act of Referendum for South Sudan, which concerns the people of south Sudan who will vote for either separation or the unity, is not an easy one, but the most important issue is its implementation. The MPs called for work for the unity of the people of Sudan, describing the Act for the Referendum of South Sudan as the most risky one since the Independence of the country.
