SUNA- The Undersecretary of the UN Secretary General for Humanitarian Affairs, John Holmes, said that the humanitarian situation in Darfur is improving due to the efforts of Sudan government, he UN and the organizations operating in Darfur. At a press conference he held Sunday evening by the end of his four-day visit to Sudan Holmes disclosed that the government agreed that three American humanitarian organizations can come to operate in Darfur to replace the three barred organizations.

He stressed that the national unity government, the Government of South Sudan (GoSS) and the UN shall work together to put an end to what he called tribal violence in the south. Holmes said that around 20,000 displaced people at Okabo area, in Jongoli State, are needy for urgent aid, warning from the consequences of the military operations that are staged by the Ugandan Lord Resistance Army (LRA) in south Sudan.

He called on the international community to live up to its commitments to meet the humanitarian needs in Sudan, indicating that assistance shall be extended to all the needy people in Darfur and south Sudan. Holmes said that he obtained affirmation from Sudan government on its keenness to combat the phenomenon of abduction of humanitarian aid workers.
