Meeting between Taha and Menawi in Al-Fasher Affirms Importance of Implementation of Darfur Peace Agreement, Formation of Military and Follow up Committees

SUNA- The meeting which included the Vice - President of the Republic, Ali Osman Mohamed Taha, and the Senior Assistant of the President of the Republic, Chairman of the Transitional Darfur Regional Authority (TDRA), Meni Arko Menawi, in Al-Fasher Friday affirmed the adherence and the commitment to the implementation of Darfur peace agreement, besides the agreement to exerting efforts to securing roads, protecting civilians and delivering humanitarian aid to the displaced people.

The meeting took place in the presence of members of the Transitional Darfur Regional Authority (TDRA) and a number of federal ministers.

The meeting underscored the importance of implementation of Darfur peace agreement items, formation of a joint military committee, coordination of security work, cessation of hostilities between the two parties and formation of a joint committee to follow up the implementation of Darfur peace agreement and outcome of Al-Fasher meetings on the ground, and that this committee shall meet in Khartoum within one week.

The meeting agreed on the importance of establishment of development projects in Darfur through Darfur Development Fund, especially with regard to water, education, health and infrastructural projects. The government and TDRA parties also agreed on speeding up the implementation of the constitutional aspects in the peace agreement and formation of a team of civil service experts.
