President Bashir: some influential power in the world does not want peace realization in Darfur

SUNA- The President of the Republic, Field Marshal Omar al Bashir, has said that an influential world power did not want peace to be realized in Darfur, saying the agendas of that power are far from any interest of the Darfur people in particular and the Sudanese people in general.

In his statement before the political and executive leaderships at the headquarters of the legislative Council in Juba, on the occasion of the signing of a number of contracts for the construction of dams in Southern Sudan, in the presence of First Vice President and President of the Government of Southern Sudan,Salva Kiir Myardit, the President has pointed out that the government of Sudan based on her strong belief in necessity of reaching a comprehensive settlement for Darfur has launched the Sudanese People's Initiative to remedy the situation there as the general trend in Darfur are for peace.

The President stressed the need for working towards achieving unity and making it an optional choice for the people of the same homeland. He said unity would make of the Sudan a superpower and that the imposition of unity by force was now bygone and has been overcome. He said our objective is to unite the Sudan socially, calling for double efforts for creating a unifying Sudanese entity away from tribalism and race, adding that the Sudan was capable of providing an example of unity and coexistence to be copied by the whole world.

The President has meanwhile urged for reinforcing cooperation between the Government of Southern Sudan and the Federal government with the view that the southern Sudan would make use of the expertise of the North in the field of huge development projects.

The President said the signing of the contracts for the Southern Sudan dams represents an important step towards peace and the beginning for the real marsh towards development in the South. He said the country was still suffering from the boycott of the financial institutions despite the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement and the Abuja Peace Accords for Darfur. But the President stressed that the government of Sudan has signed a loan agreement with the government of China for the construction of the Peace Road that links the North with the South of the country via land. On the demarcation of borders between the South and the North, the President stressed the commitment of the government to make the demarcation of the 1/1/1956 borders in accordance with the protocol on the demarcation of borders.

He pointed out that the joint commission between the two sides will start its work on the ground after the elapse of the rainy season. On the issue of the general elections the President said we would like to have a fair and transparent election that would be a pave that way for taking the country a huge step towards stability.

He said Sudan would not want to see bad elections, as has happened in some African countries. On his part the First Vice President Salva Kiir Mayardit has stressed the keenness of the two parties to fully implement the CPA and to find peaceful solutions to all the problems facing the country. He also urged for convergence of all national efforts to finds a comprehensive solution to the problem of Darfur.

On his part, the Speaker of the Southern Sudan legislature, James Wani Igga, has described the visit of the President of the Republic to Southern Sudan as a historical even and that it came at a time the two partners to the agreement have achieve great victories in the implementation of the road map for Abyei agreement, pointing out to the huge step taken by the Presidency to appoint the Abyei administration.

He said it was a move towards the confidence building between the two sides. Igga has meanwhile said the move taken by the Prosecutor of the ICC was a jump in the darkness and that by taking such a step the ICC Prosecutor is seeking to abort the Comprehensive Peace Agreement. He said the signing of the contract for the dams' project pours into the interest of realizing the attractive unity.
