President Al-Bashir arrives in Turkey

SUNA - President of the Republic Field Marshal Omer Al-Bashir arrived Monday evening in the Turkish town of Istanbul heading Sudan's delegation for the African-Turkish summit conference which opens session Tuesday and last for two days. President Al-Bashir is accompanied by Minister of the Presidency of the Republic Gen. Bakri Hassan Salih, Minister of Foreign Affairs Deng Alor, Minister of Finance and National Economy Dr. Awad Al-Jaz, Minister of International Cooperation Dr. Al-Tegani Salih Fedail, Minister of Agriculture Dr. Al-Zubair Bashir Taha and other senior officials.

The summit represents a suitable framework for Turkish-African dialogue on the basis of equality and mutual benefits. It also shows the Turkish commitment towards the programme relevant to the least developed countries.

The summit will review cooperation programmes in the economic, social and human resources development domains besides education and culture. The summit will also adopt a mechanism for the follow up of the Istanbul summit declaration on the Turkish-African cooperation that will be issued at the end of the meetings.

This is the first Turkish-African summit meeting of its kind and that it comes as a crowning for the Turkish overture towards Africa during the last decade. The positive outcome of that overture is clear in the development of the economic and trade exchange between the two sides.
