Sudanese - Eritrean Talks Held on Bilateral Relations and Issues of Mutual Concern

SUNA- The Foreign Minister, Deng Alor, Wednesday held talks with the visiting Eritrean Foreign Minister, Osman Salih, on the bilateral relations, issues of mutual concern, the allegations of the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), besides the relations between Sudan and Chad and the role that Eritrea can play in this regard.

In a press statement, Alor said that the visit of the Eritrean Foreign Minister aims to boost further the relations between Sudan and Eritrea. He said that the Eritrean Foreign Minister will hand over a message from the President of Eritrea, Assais Afwerki to the President of the Republic, Field Marshal Omer Al-Bashir. Alor indicated that the Eritrean Foreign Minister will meet during the visit with a number of senior officials of the national unity government to discuss the issue of the Sudanese - Chadian relations, adding that Eritrea has played a remarkable role in improvement of the relations between Sudan and Chad.

He said that Eritrea will host the meetings of the Mechanism of Dakar during August 26 - 29, indicating that Eritrea could play a major role for reaching a quick peaceful solution for Darfur issue. Alor said that Sudan welcomes all initiatives toward achieving a political settlement for Darfur issue.

Meanwhile, the Eritrean Foreign Minister, Osman Salih, said that he is holding a message from the President of Eritrea to President Omer Al-Bashir dealing with ways to consolidate the bilateral relations. He said that the Sudanese - Eritrean ties are firm, adding that Sudan is a friendly and neighbour country. He hoped that the relations between Sudan and Chad will be good, adding that Eritrea is working to enhance the Sudanese - Chadian relations.
