US Envoy: Sustainable peace in Darfur requires a Sudanese solution

SUNA- US Special Envoy to Sudan Richard Williamson has stressed that sustainable peace in Darfur requires a Sudanese solution as the problem is Sudanese.

Following separate meetings with Minister of Foreign Affairs Deng Alor and Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr. Mutrif Sidik Tuesday, Williamson said in a press statement that a serious assessment process for reactivation of the peace process in Darfur is underway, pointing out that the new joint UN-AU Chief Mediator for Darfur, Bassole, would come to Sudan shortly again, affirming US support to the political process for solving Darfur problem.

The Spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Ali Al-Sadik, on his part, pointed out that the US Envoy discussed with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Dr. Mutrif the situations in Abyei and Darfur and issues pertinent to bilateral relations.
