United Nations Mission in Sudan welcomes the appointment of an interim administration for Abyei

President of the Republic Omar al-Bashir issued a decree appointing Arob Miak Monj as head of Abyei and Rahma Abdel Rahman Al-Nour as his deputy. The resolution mandated the head of the region and his deputy to handover their nomination to the executive in a period not exceeding two weeks from taking their oath.

On the other hand the United Nations Mission in Sudan also welcomed the appointment of interim administration for Abyei, the special representative of UN Secretary General Ashraf Qazi said in a statement that the UN organization encourages the parties to move forward in implementing the decisions of the road map, to enable the displaced people to return home to resume their lives in a secure environment.

Qazi stressed that the United Nations and humanitarian organizations stand ready to lend a helping hand, calling donors to make contributions to rebuild Abyei.
