SUNA - First Vice President of the Republic Salva Kiir Mayardit and US special envoy to Sudan Richard Williamson discussed the situations in Abyei and Darfur and the repercussions of the memorandum of the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC).

Salva Kiir said the memorandum of the ICC is not for the interest of Sudan and the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) and will have negative reflections on the neighbouring countries. Salva Kiir added while responding to queries of the American envoy on the situations in Abyei that the government has established an administration for the area and the citizens have started voluntary return, affirming that a local administration would be established in the area, deployment of police forces to maintain security and stability and return of all displaced persons to the area. Mr. Williamson, on his part, expressed appreciation of US President George Bush to the wisdom of the two partners of the CPA in overcoming the crisis of Abyei and containing the tension that occurred recently in the area, pointing out that appointment of the administration of Abyei is an indicator for the final solution of the problem.

The US envoy said that he discussed with the First Vice President developments of Darfur and the efforts being exerted for creating conducive atmosphere for conducting political dialogue to reach solution for Darfur problem. He pointed out that he would visit Juba, Abyei and Darfur.
