SUNA- The Arab Foreign Ministers Council is to hold an extraordinary meeting in the coming days to discuss the new developments of the situation between Sudan and the International Criminal Court (ICC).

This was announced to SUNA by Sudan Ambassador to Cairo and envoy to the Arab League Ambassador Abdel-Moneim Mabrouk, pointing out that the Government of Sudan submitted an urgent request to the Secretariat General of the Arab League to convene the meeting. Ambassador Mabrouk said the ICC has political objectives that do not include realization of justice, pointing out that the move by the ICC prosecutor proves the double standards adopted by the court as it turns a blind eye to some big powers.

He pointed out that Sudan calls on the international community to stop these fabrications that harm the efforts of the political settlement in Darfur and gives negative signals to the rebel movements that refuse to sit at the negotiating table. Meanwhile, Chairman of the Office of the Secretary General of the Arab League Ambassador Hesham Yousif said the Secretariat General after receiving the request of the government of Sudan it conveyed it to the Arab states and that the Secretariat General received support of Syria to the request.

Ambassador Yousif considered the matter as very dangerous, affirming that the Arab stance will continue to demand non politicization of the ICC and the importance of non intervention in the internal affairs of Sudan and respect of its sovereignty and independence.
