President Al-Bashir expresses appreciation to Britain's concern and support to issues of Sudan

SUNA - President of the Republic Field Marshal Omer Al-Bashir has expressed appreciation to Britain's concern and support to all issues of Sudan. This came when President Al-Bashir received at the Guest House Wednesday British Foreign Minister David Miliband in the presence of Minister of Foreign Affairs Deng Alor.

President Al-Bashir reaffirmed the commitment of the government of national unity to boost the peace process and implementation of the agreements it signed in this regard. Miliband said in a press statement that the meeting discussed the historic relations between Sudan and Britain and the responsibilities of the United Kingdom as a member of the Security Council towards Sudan and its stability besides the progress of implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement and the accomplishments made in this regard according to the report of the Assessment and Evaluation Commission for the past three years.

He called on Darfur rebels to stop violence and unite so that the UK can make its good offices towards resolving Darfur issue, stressing the importance of making the voice of the civil society in Darfur heard in the debate regarding the future of Darfur. The British Minister referred to the great contributions by his country to the humanitarian work in Sudan which amounts to 225 million pounds annually. He pointed out that the meeting also discussed the importance of stability between Sudan and Chad and the responsibilities of the governments of the two countries towards Darfur issue, referring to the importance of cooperation by all parties in Sudan with UNAMID to boost peace and stability in Darfur.
