Vice President Ali Osman Mohamed Taha has stressed the importance of establishment of Sudanese-European relations to be step for establishing human relations that yields peace with all its fruits. Addressing the inaugural session of the Sudanese-European Relations Forum at the Friendship Hall in Khartoum Monday, Taha presented a number of clear and frank questions hoping that it would objectively be discussed by the forum to establish healthy and positive relations for the benefit of the human experience and to come out with fruitful recommendations for realizing human partnership.
The Vice President pointed out that Sudan looks forward to build a stable and lively Sudanese society that establish its future by the optimum utilization of the resources it possess, which can not be realized aloof from the world.
Taha pointed to horizons of establishment of balanced and just economic and development partnership between Sudan and Europe. He also asked whether Sudan and Europe would succeed to achieve an equation that allows dialogue between civilizations and mutual respect for cultures and religions.
The Vice President also referred to the importance of establishment of relations and partnerships in the international policy based on recognition of independence and sovereignty of states.
On the other side the Director of the European-Sudanese Public Affairs Council, Prof. David Hoile, on Monday called on the European states to exercise pressure on the rebel movements in Dafur to sit for negotiations with the view to reach a comprehensive and just settlement to the question of Darfur.
In a statement to the Sudan News Agency SUNA on Monday, professor Hoile has stressed that the biggest challenge that face Sudan now was to provide the correct information to the outside world and that Sudan needs to create regular mechanism for reflecting the information. On the role that Europe could play to resolve the Darfur question, professor Hoile added that the European role is more influential than that of the American role.
He urged for working together for overcoming the hurdles that obstruct the cooperation process between the Sudan and Europe. He talked of attempts to inflate and picture the difference between the west and Islam and to unjustly bringing in the name of the Sudan in such a difference.
He stressed the importance of such a forum on the Sudanese European relation san the importance that Europe should play its role in developing its foreign relations. He pointed out to the efforts being exerted to develop the economic relations between the Sudan and Europe. He said Sudan could make use of the European potentials and forming economic ties that serve the joint interests between the two sides.
